Machinist – Day Shift

This day-shift machinist role focuses on setting up and operating 3-axis CNC lathes and mills to produce high-volume precision parts used in the manufacturing of specialized products. You will machine primarily iron, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel, with occasional plastic work, and ensure all parts meet strict quality standards through accurate inspection and measurement. The position requires hands-on work with CNC programs, tooling changes, and basic setup activities in a climate-controlled machine shop environment.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3-axis CNC lathes and mills for production machining of high-volume parts.
• Load raw materials such as iron, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, and plastic into CNC machines.
• Select and run appropriate CNC programs based on orders, diagrams, and basic blueprints.
• Perform 2 to 3 machine setups per day, including changeovers and tooling adjustments.
• Inspect parts as they come off the machine using micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
• Measure parts to tolerances down to.0001 of an inch to ensure they meet quality and specification requirements.
• Perform basic reading and interpretation of blueprints to understand part dimensions and machining requirements.
• Monitor machine operation and make minor adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Change out tooling as needed to support different jobs and materials.
• Assist with or perform manual machining operations when required.
• Follow all safety procedures, including safe lifting practices up to 40 lbs and proper use of machine shop equipment such as drill presses and shears.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area within the machine shop.
• Support production goals by working assigned hours and overtime as needed, including some Saturdays.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of experience operating CNC machines in a production or machine shop environment.
• Hands-on experience running CNC lathes or mills, preferably 3-axis equipment.
• Ability to use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools to inspect parts.
• Capability to measure parts to tolerances down to.0001 of an inch.
• Basic ability to read and understand blueprints and diagrams.
• Experience loading materials into CNC machines and selecting appropriate programs.
• Comfort working with metals such as iron, brass, aluminum, and stainless steel, and occasional plastics.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs safely and repeatedly as part of daily duties.
• General machine operating experience, including familiarity with tooling changes, drill presses, and shears.
• Reliability in working a consistent first-shift schedule and overtime when required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience performing CNC setups, including multiple changeovers per day.
• Ability to change out tooling efficiently and accurately.
• Exposure to or ability to edit CNC M-code and G-code (strong plus).
• Manual machining experience, including operation of conventional machine tools.
• Experience with lathe and mill setup and machining in a production environment.
• Working in a climate-controlled machine shop.
• Familiarity with drill presses, shears, and other supporting machine shop equipment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a climate-controlled machine shop focused on CNC production machining. You will work with 3-axis CNC lathes and mills, using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers, and supporting equipment including drill presses and shears. The primary materials are iron, brass, aluminum, stainless steel, and occasional plastics. The position is on first shift, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with current hours running 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and some Saturdays for overtime. The environment emphasizes safety, precision, and teamwork in a clean, organized production setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ocala, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
