Description:

We are seeking a driver for Local and OTR driving experience to join our team in Ocala, FL. The ideal candidate should have previous thoroughbred handling and hauling experience, have a safe driving record, Class A CDL (preferred, but not required), be available to run OTR as needed, be flexible with their schedule, and live in Ocala or the surrounding area.

Must have horse handling experience and to drive OTR during peak seasons.

Compensation:

  • Average annual gross pay: $60,000
  • Starting at $17 an hour for Local/Regional runs will make more with OTR trips
    • Must be able to run OTR with a team member during peak seasons typically 4 weeks in the Fall and 4 weeks in the Spring. Pay Per Load (% based on number of horses and milage) when driving OTR
  • Driver Referral Bonus: $7,000 per driver. Paid over the course of your first year every 90 days (for OTR drivers only)
  • Performance and Safety Bonus: paid twice per year
  • DOT inspection with no violations: $50 gift card
  • Layover pay and company paid hotel stay if required
  • Company provided vehicle for layovers for personal use
  • $60 Per diem per day when away from your home base overnight
  • Paid via direct deposit weekly

Home Time, Route, & Schedule
  • Home time: Varies with industry calendar.
    • Typically, home daily with possible overnights depending on the type of trip
    • OTR with a team member during peak seasons typically 4 weeks in the Fall and 4 weeks in the Spring.
  • Drivers must be available for work at all times in order to meet customer pickup and delivery scheduled. Weekend work required.
  • Transport Thoroughbreds to and from various locations in FL in a safe and timely manner


Equipment:
  • Pick-up truck with gooseneck trailer
  • Automatic Transmission
  • Event triggered inward and outward facing cameras
  • No Slip seating

Responsibilities:
  • Transport Thoroughbreds to and from various locations in FL in a safe and timely manner
  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed accurately and on time
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch and other team members
  • Maintain a clean and organized vehicle
  • Adhere to all DOT regulations and company policies

Qualifications:
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record (Class A CDL preferred, not required)
  • Minimum of 1 year driving experience required within the last 3 years
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must meet Sallee Horse Vans MVR and Risk Rating qualifications
  • Must meet DOT physical and medical requirements
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
  • Able to left a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Requires high degree of attention, skill, and dexterity in the control of tractor-trailer and in preventing injuries, damage to property & trailer equipment
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Must be customer-focused, honest, trustworthy, and a team player who cares about their co-workers.
  • Horse experience is required
  • Having a passport to driver into Canada is a plus
  • Hiring Radius: Drivers must live within 50 miles of Ocala, FL or be willing to relocate for this position.
