Job Title: Advanced Electronics / Computer Field (ET/FC) Category / Component: Enlisted Active

Overview: As an Advanced Electronics and Computer Field specialist, you will receive training to maintain, operate, and repair some of the Navy's most advanced electronics and computing systems, including radar, communications, navigation, and combat systems. This role is crucial aboard Navy vessels such as aircraft carriers and cruisers, as well as in shore-based facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an Electronics Technician (ET) or Fire Controlman (FC) based on training and Navy needs.
  • As an ET, you will maintain and repair radar, communication, and navigation equipment.
  • As an FC, you will operate, maintain, and repair fire control systems and weaponry.
  • Troubleshoot complex electronic systems using technical documentation and test equipment.
  • Maintain configuration control and documentation supporting inspections and combat readiness.

  • Engage in hands-on technical work blending classroom learning and intensive practical training.
  • Frequent troubleshooting under pressure to restore essential combat systems.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols, technical documentation, and test routines.

Work Environment:

  • Assignments aboard surface combatants, including aircraft carriers and cruisers.
  • Workspaces include combat systems areas, radar rooms, and electronics shops.
  • Exposure to varied environments such as noise, confined spaces, and weather elements.

Pathways, Training & Advancement:

  • Complete Recruit Training followed by Apprentice Technical Training covering essential electronics and troubleshooting.
  • Progress to strand training for either Electronics Technician or Fire Controlman specialties.
  • Participate in A School and follow-on C Schools with college credit recommended.
  • Accelerated advancement to E4 upon completing initial training and qualifying examinations.

Qualifications:

  • Eligibility to serve in the United States Navy, including citizenship requirements.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary for enlisted positions.
  • Meet medical, vision, and fitness standards specific to the role.
  • Pass required tests for entry into your desired program.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Normal hearing and color perception for safe work with electronics.
  • Strong aptitude for arithmetic and computing, capable of learning technical systems.
  • Physical strength and manual dexterity for handling equipment safely.

Education: Educational benefits are available through standard Navy programs, including the Post-9/11 GI Bill and various apprenticeships tailored to your training and status.
