Description
Public transit professional with experience in developing and coordinating both short- and long-range transit plans, as well as organizing the operations of the City's demand-response and fixed-route transit systems. Participates in activities with other City departments, Marion County, the Federal Transit Administration, and the Florida Department of Transportation. The Transit Coordinator performs a full range of professional transit planning work, applying technical knowledge to municipal and regional transit planning challenges. This position reports to the Transit Administrator.
Examples of Duties
* Reviews, comments on, and coordinates the work of outside transit and planning consultants on City and multi-agency projects.
* Assists with developing and coordinating SunTran's short and long-range transit efforts, including drafting plans and polices.
* Assists with policies and procedures related to transit operations, including emergency procedures.
* Prepares and maintains various records, data, and reports, including development and submission of SunTran's National Transit Database (NTD) reports.
* Utilizes and maintains familiarity with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) software data systems.
* Research best practices and emerging trends for transit-related projects and initiatives.
* Monitor and makes recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of bus service, including temporary service adjustments, headway specifications, and route restructuring, based on analysis of ridership data, public input, operations staff feedback, and field observations
* Prepares maps, data visualizations, and materials to support transit service planning and public outreach for both temporary and long-term service changes.
* Prepares technical reports, summaries, and recommendations related to transit planning and operations.
* Utilizes Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) software to develop real-time analytics and insights into key performance indicators.
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in public administration, Planning, Business Administration, Logistics or a related field, plus two years of experience in public transit operations or administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Training Programs
The City is committed to provide training programs for all departments and all positions. Risk Management conducts classes in Defensive Driving, Safety, and Insurance. With rare exceptions, classes are offered during working hours, and are open to all eligible employees.
